Welcome to the IWA!
The IWA represents YOU, and YOUR sport, on the island of Ireland. We focus on maximising the safety, engagement and enjoyment for all of our members. We unashamedly ask you to support the IWA by becoming a member and to get involved with us be it at one of our events, or simply in one of our online platforms.

1) Strength in Numbers
It is only a question of time before an issue comes to visit your local lake or beach. When that time comes, the IWA will be there to support you and your fellow beach users. Here are 3 examples of why the IWA needs your support…
Example 1 - The IWA were successfully involved in supporting Galway watersport enthusiasts in a campaign to stop the implementation of a Beach Bye Law that would have prohibited water sports on Galway Beaches. Without a recognized organization like the IWA representing a large number of people, a successful outcome likely would not have been achieved.
Example 2 - During the covid lockdowns, the IWA successfully lobbied government to make exception to the travel/ sports ban for watersports.
Example 3 - A proposed ban is upcoming, whereby no watersports will be allowed in conditions where Orange and Red warnings are in place. However experienced riders enjoy the conditions produced in Orange warnings, and it will fall on the IWA to ensure fair legislation is enforced.
2) Event , Gatherings and Competitions
The IWA supports events that are suitable for all levels of rider, from beginner through to expert. Events provide the platform for like minded watersport enthusiasts to meet and to have fun, both on the water and also when on land! Events are key to developing our sport nationally, and are one of the best ways for YOU to improve your ability as a rider in a safe, welcoming and encouraging atmosphere.

We’re proud of our very talented Irish riders who compete on an international level. The IWA supported events also provide the road map, practice and exposure for these professional level riders.

3) Insurance Cover - INCLUDED for members!
Often completely missed, insurance has the potential to be the most important purchase for watersports. If you think you don't need insurance, please think again. Equipment can easily get flipped over or blown away at the beach…now imagine a child was passing by and was injured because your equipment struck them. With more open water swimmers now using the same beaches, the risk increases.
All IWA members receive Third Party Insurance Cover, which can be used anywhere in the world.
The limit of indemnity is currently set at €6,500,000 per incident…this means if you injure or damage someone else or their property, you are insured with cover of up to €6,500,000. Joining the IWA, gives you this peace of mind...for less than €0.90 per week!!!

4) Member Benefits - Discounts and Special Offers
Being an IWA member entitles you to avail of benefits from fantastic suppliers, who like you also support the IWA. Feel free to directly contact these suppliers listed below with your membership details. Typical benefits included discounts up to 10% off retail price, or special offers.
IWA members can also avail of FREE membership of the Irish Sailing Association (ISA).
Becoming a member of the ISA also opens up their range of benefits.

5) FREE IWA Merchandise
The IWA is your organisation…something we are all proud to part of. Engaging with us, maybe by simply reading our updates, or by attending an event, helps us to grow and to support you in your watersports.
Upon joining, you’ll receive some free merchandise. Our car stickers are very popular, and instantly recognisable when parked up. We also from time to time have beanies and sail stickers. Displaying and wearing these is supporting your association, and we thank you for that.
