Freestyle 2 - Courtmacsherry - 16th August 25
When it comes to windsurfing in Ireland, adaptability is key. Conditions can shift quickly, and events often have to evolve on the fly. That was exactly the case at the Freestyle Frenzy this past Saturday. What was meant initially as a light-wind freestyle event turned into an action-packed day of racing when the breeze filled in.
With the wind picking up, the focus shifted to fast-paced races, and smaller sails quickly became the go-to setup. It was fantastic to see everyone embracing the change – beginners pushed their limits, and advanced riders wowed the crowd with high-speed manoeuvres and slick freestyle tricks.
Throughout the day, a series of Bronze and Silver fleet races kept the energy high and the competition friendly. The event welcomed a wide range of experience levels, from near-complete beginners to confident sailors. It was especially inspiring to see so many young windsurfers out on the water. The future of the sport in Ireland is clearly bright!
Massive thanks to Gecko Adventures in Courtmacsherry for hosting and running such a successful and flexible event.
